There was once a man who lived in a little house on a little farm in the middle of a place called Nowhere. He lived a quiet, happy life with one other, his sole companion- a dog called Rufus. One day, while the man was out on his daily stroll, a large city crept out of the shadows and placed itself around the island that was Nowhere. The man was quite startled to see that there was a gigantic city now looming over his little house; although, he adjusted accordingly. He was an accepting man.
Instead of eating his own produce, he took to purchasing food from the brightly lit, very modern supermarkets. He bought a car. A TV. A computer. Loafers. And he sent Rufus to a Dog Hotel, for his little house was getting a little too crowded for a little dog and himself. The more the man bought the less happy he became. He did not stop to think that this may've been due to the clutter in his house; on the contrary, he believed happiness to be gained with the purchase of more. This is what the people of the city called Somewhere had taught him.
He bought a persian rug, a silver tea set, a chain saw, a talking doll.. he was running out of things to buy, and places to put them; for his house was very little. Slowly, his belongings began to spill out of the windows and into the farm. When the farm was filled, the toys, TV's, cars, clothes and all his other things simply flooded over into Somewhere city. Nowhere was Somewhere now, connected by a road of junk.
The man was unhappy.
Rufus could be heard, howling in the distance.
Somewhere was Somewhere.
Nowhere, was gone.
